ALMOST LIKE PRAYING

ALMOST LIKE PRAYING. “Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win,” a quote by American author, Stephen King. Senior Nathalie Madera says, “This is my favorite quote because you don’t always know but everyone has something that they are battling inside.” Nathalie Madera, daughter of Mildred and Mark DeWalt, was born on February 13th, 2006. Growing up in Irvington, NJ she has made countless memories alongside her four older siblings. One of Nathalie’s favorite memories from her childhood in Irvington was during late spring when the beautiful cherry blossoms would bloom.

Nathalie is known for her love of service and dedication to making others happy. During Nathalie’s time in high school she was involved in many activities: Art Club 4 years, All School Play 1 year, Forensics 2 years, FACS 2 years, Volleyball 3 years, and Basketball 3 years. She is very active in the extracurriculars she’s been a part of, like being Art Club secretary for one year, and Volleyball manager for three years.

She describes her ideal Saturday night as just staying in and reading a book, or sometimes drawing. Nathalie’s favorite class in school is art. Art teacher Mrs. Miller even says, “Sometimes it feels like she’s out here more than me!” Ever since she was a little girl Nathalie has always loved drawing, painting, and other art mediums.

When asked what kind of person Nathalie is, her mentor, Mrs. Steinfort says, “I have been Nathalie’s mentor, coach, and teacher and I can safely say that she is a servant leader in every sense of the word. She does not need accolades, but truly loves to help and meet the needs of others.”

After high school, Nathalie plans on becoming a Corn husker by attending the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she will study Forensic Science. In 10 years, she intends to be back in Marshall County, where she will be serving as a Crime Scene Investigator.
