Flashpoint

FLASHPOINT. Did you know in America, there are more than 3.8 million cheerleaders over the age of 6? Cheerleading is a very popular sport. From sideline cheering, to competitive cheer, there is no doubt that this is an interesting sport.

This year the 2024-25 VHHS cheer squad has been working extra hard. They have put in lots of hours and dedication to nail performances. There are 14 cheerleaders on this years cheer squad, that consists of; Haily Stoudt, Tessa Miller, Khloe Gunn, Janelle Medina, Violet Slifer, Mia Vermetten, Kaitlin Hemry, Krista Porter, Ella Swearingen, Paige Miller, Avery Stevenson, Shaylee Ekstrum, Julia Heinen, and Macy Stoudt.

Hitting performances is stressful. There are so many stunts, motions, and words you have to memorize. Co-caption Tessa Miller says, “We learned so much from cheer camp and I love growing closer with the team!” Most of the things learned from cheering comes from cheer camp. The cheerleaders go to a 3 day cheer camp in El Dorado, Kansas where they learn stunts, cheers, and dances. Not only do they learn how to cheer but also how to work together!

The cheerleaders are in the midst of cheering during the “Friday Night Lights." “Being on the football field with everyone was so fun and I am looking forward to the rest of the season!”  says Freshman Julia Heinen. “I love cheering at home games because we have the whole squad with us and the atmosphere is amazing!” says Sophomore Shaylee Ekstrum.

The VHHS cheer team has much to look forward to and has even more accomplished. They are ready to show their school spirit this year! America would not be the same without cheerleaders.
