Check Point

The Bike across Kansas. Every year there is a bike across Kansas, The Gravel Dash. These dedicated riders bike for 120 miles in two days! They camp out in Alcove Springs and then begin their ride at 7:30 in the morning. These bikers bike across the county with only three stops. When the riders stop it is only for a few minutes until they are off again. The volunteers set up snacks, pickle juice, electrolytes, and a rest area to give the riders a boost before take off. At the checkpoint in Waterville, Ks the Valley Heights NHS students were there to lend a helping hand. There were five volunteers for the race, some rang them in with cowbells to cheer them on and others took all the bikers' numbers. This was a fun and unique experience for the students to see, and they loved to be of service for this year's Gravel Dash.
