MAKING HISTORY. For the first time in Valley Heights football history, the Mustangs made it to the Sub State Championship round where they were set to take on the Conway Springs Cardinals. The Mustangs knew that this was going to be a hard fought game due to the fact that the Cardinals had a 20 game win streak before Friday nights contest.
The game started off with the Cardinals running one in for a touchdown, but then the Mustangs responded marching down the field with Senior quarterback, Mack Shanks connecting with Senior tight end, Royce Ekstrum on a 19 yard passing touchdown to make the score 8-6 favoring the Cardinals.
The Cardinals were able to get through the Mustangs defense and score a few more times throughout the second and third quarter. But in the fourth quarter the Mustangs were able to reduce the Cardinals lead by scoring twice with two rushing touchdowns by Senior running back, Jayden DeWalt. In the end the Mustangs were not able to overcome the Cardinals making the final score 55-22.
Despite the Mustangs season coming to an end, they were able to make history by being the first football team in Valley Heights history to make it to the Sub State Championship. The senior's leadership that was shown throughout the season has helped prepare the underclassmen to be ready to step up and carry the success they've had into the next season.
