FLAVORS FROM VALLEY HEIGHTS. The culinary classes at Valley Heights offer students an opportunity to learn important life skills such as cooking and baking. This class also teaches students the proper way to handle tools in the kitchen and how to use them. Students learn skills like proper knife handling, mixing doughs, and plating food. Another important part of this class is the teamwork that is required, most lab days students get split up into groups to work on their project. When asked about what her favorite thing about teaching culinary is, Mrs. Pacha responded “I like to see the students' creativity and how proud they are after they have seen what they’ve made.”
Culinary is also fun. Students cook and bake all kinds of different foods and desserts, and after they’re done with their creation they get to taste test what was made. One of the biggest benefits of culinary class is learning how to do things that you will need in the future for your everyday life. When asking James Bohlken, what the most important thing that culinary has taught him he responded by saying “I've learned lots of things that are important but I think that the most important thing I've learned is how to make grilled cheese.” Culinary classes are popular courses at Valley Heights with many students wanting to learn and practice these kitchen skills and reap the rewards of their hard work.
