St. Patrick’s Day. St. Patrick’s Day, also known as St. Patty’s Day, is celebrated annually on March 17. This day, which originated in 1631, commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and by extension, celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by parades, festivals, wearing green, and eating Irish food. In Chicago for St. Patty's Day, they dye the river green to decorate the city. A survey was sent to the students at the high school, some said wearing green and others do more like eating corn beef cabbage and potatoes for supper.
