USD 498 Board of Education Spotlight:
David Vermetten currently serves as the president of the Valley Heights BOE and is in his 8th year as a board member. David and his family live in rural Waterville where he owns and operates his structural engineering business, VMT Engineering P.A. His wife, Suzie, is a kindergarten teacher for USD 498, and their son, Dawson is in the 6th grade at Blue Rapids Grade School. When he does have free time, he likes to spend as much time as he can with his family.
David summed up his boardsmanship as follows:
"I would not be the person I am today if not for the educational experience and care I received at Valley Heights. I serve as a thank you for what I received." He said the most rewarding part of his role on the board is watching students grow, succeed and ultimately graduate.
Thank you, David, for your consistent and dedicated service to USD 498 and our students! We appreciate you!

January is School Board Recognition Month, a great opportunity to say thank you to the Valley Heights Board of Education who are committed to the success of every student in our community.
Our board of education includes David Vermetten, Sharon Osborne, Robert Chase, Theresa Minihan, Melva Sanner, Mike Vermetten and John Walsh.
These seven community leaders volunteer hundreds of hours attending meetings, reading reports and discussing plans and programs to support educational achievement. Our board members develop policies and make complex decisions that shape the future of our education system. As you can see, a board member’s responsibility goes far behind the monthly meeting.
The administration and staff of USD 498 encourages the entire community to thank a school board member, not only this month but throughout the entire year. Please join with us in sharing our gratitude for these devoted community members who consistently go above and beyond to serve the entirety of Valley Heights schools!
Stay tuned to our social media and live feed as we feature each of our board of education members throughout the month of January!
