USD 498 COVID 19 Update:

Last Friday, the Valley Heights Student Council provided pizza and pop to the high school staff. They also shared the following message, read to the staff by Catherine Toerber.
Thank you Student Council for the kind gesture and heart felt words.
“Where your talents and needs of the world cross; there lies your vocation.” -Aristotle.
"As I read this quote, I realized it does not fail to represent each and every single teacher, coach, para, janitor, cafeteria worker, counselor, secretary, principal, or superintendent here at Valley Heights. The
talent in this room alone, is beyond measure. It takes a special kind of person to be able to connect with the diverse and special personalities that you encounter every single day. It takes a special type of person to come to their job everyday and wear a bright smile everyday after
getting a few hours of sleep, or having a rough morning, but you guys do it. It takes a special type of person to give young people a basic education before taking on the real world, but you guys do it. I don’t think that any of us students say thank you enough for that. The teachers and staff here at valley heights are really the best of the best. Every single student here is so lucky to have mentors like you all. If you haven’t heard it today, or any other day, I would just like to say, thank you. Thank you for being people that change lives. Thank you for being a solid rock for people that don’t have that type of foundation at home. Thank you for showing up everyday with a positive attitude even when the outside world may be trying to tear you down. Thank you for giving young people skills that are needed to survive in the real world. Thank you for using your talents to meet the needs of the world. Thank you for being teachers. This world needs more selfless, kindhearted people like you, but I am glad that Valley Heights was lucky enough
to get all of you. So many lessons have been learned here at Valley Heights, and that goes beyond the lessons over WW2, or the lessons about the biology of a plant, or the lessons over the history of rock and roll, you guys teach life lessons. Your talent reaches beyond the needs of the world, your talent meets the needs of each and every individual student. You guys are crazy awesome and I cannot express how thankful Stuco and I feel to have such great staff here at Valley Heights. So thank you again for being so talented and amazing. There aren’t enough words to thank you all enough. You all have made a difference in many different lives, and we are beyond lucky to have you all."

USD 498 will have a two hour delay tomorrow, Monday, February 8, 2021. There will be no a.m. preschool.

The BVL BB Championship games for Saturday, February 6th, will be postponed. When dates and times are confirmed, we will let you know. Please have a safe weekend!

Kelsey Kennedy, recovering addict, and drug and alcohol counselor spoke to students of Valley Heights Jr/Sr High this week. She presented to grades 7-9 Thursday and 10-12 Friday. We appreciate her sharing her personal story and path to recovery. In addition, she shared so much information to help prevent others from the struggles she had. The message was very powerful, also showing students that there is always help and hope to overcome adversity in life. We thank Kelsey for being so “real” with our students and the courage to share with all of us!
BVL BB Tournament will be pushed back in the day for now. VH JH boys and girls will play around 2:15 pm. If more changes are announced, we will let you know.

USD 498 Board of Education Spotlight:
Robert Chase has served for three years on the Valley Heights Board of Education. He lives in Waterville with his wife, Trinda and works for D&S Cattle Co. as a ranch hand. They have three children. Jerrika lives in Wichita, Hunter in Manhattan, and their youngest daughter Reilee Mae who is still in high school. Robert is also a board member for his church, as well as serving on its worship team and security team. In his free time he enjoys hunting and fishing.
Robert said he chooses to serve on the board because, "I love our school district. I grew up here and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 1994." Being able to support his fellow Mustangs is the most rewarding part of his role.
Thank you, Robert, for making time in your busy life to serve our district and give back to our community. We appreciate you and all you do for USD 498!

On January 29th KSHSAA will change its attendance policy to allow a few more fans to attend games. Based on their criteria, the TVL has decided to use the following guidelines:
1. Away teams---will only be allowed to bring parents/guardians only and are on the parent/guardian list and will check in at the gate. Individual schools may use the option to limit further if needed. That will be communicated on as needed.
2. No cheerleaders at away games
3. Home teams----can use what their gym allows as well as county health and school board guidelines up to 4/participant no more than 50% capacity. Individual schools may use the option to limit further if needed. This will be communicated by each school.
There will be NO SCHOOL for USD 498 on Tuesday, January 26th. All activities are cancelled.
